(un)assuming technology

This discreet piece of sign-writing (not cad-cut vinyls) on the side of this ‘historic taxi’ is the driver’s cell phone number (begins with 07). No mention is made of phones, let alone mobiles. In assuming we all know it’s a phone number (it doesn’t say ‘TEL’), it simply connects the number to the need – get a TAXI. It manages to communicate a modern function in an entirely incongruous historic setting. Museums and historic buildings: take note.

That’s an interesting thought in this blog-obsessed world! ;-)

If you had spent sometime in advertising you’d know that what your giving is bad advice, if you write; Bloggs 0113 121213 you might get 1 reply per month, if you write Tel: Alan Bloggs, Fishmonger, you might get 3 replys per month, put Alexander Bloggs & Sons, Fishmonger to the the Nobilty, Tel Albermarle 0113121213, you’ll get 20 replys per month, if you add to this by inserting “Please phone Millie Millicent to discuss delivery – then your business should take off. You will be surprised our many people say your advert did not have a telephone number, when it did. You see what people expect to see they don’t read, take in or grasp, what they find factual , unusual or interesting gets them to act. Bob. One of the great unwashed?
